Bringing Yoga and Dance together for Overall Health and Wellness
Your Health Should Take Top Priority
The LA times suggest 6 steps to prioritizing health and they are important to understand. Don’t try to change everything at once. Small changes create big habits, which can lead to creating a positive new habit, not just a result. Change your environment, recognizing that small changes add up. Get back on track quickly when you slip up, and lastly, schedule your new habits into your life (Mendel, 2017).
Dancers who can find time to prioritize the most important aspects of health and wellness can turn those hard earned skills of perseverance and perfectionism into positive results through yoga, meditation, and balance.
What is Wellness?
The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to total and holistic health (What is Wellness, 2021). How does this work for dancers?
How Dance Can Help Maintain Good Health
We are known to be strong and elegant athletic artists using our bodies to tell the stories and express the emotions that make us all human. But what if all that grace is achieved through physical and mental neglect?
How Yoga Can Balance More Than Just the Body
We are all familiar with the notion that practicing yoga will increase flexibility and strength in one’s body. We may also be vaguely aware of the mental health benefits gained through the practice of meditation. But is there an additional health benefit to starting a yoga practice as a current or former dancer?
“Our bodies are our gardens - our will our gardeners.”
— William Shakespeare
